During my summer internship at DeFiner Labs from June to September 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to contribute as a UI/UX Graphic Design intern. Throughout my internship, I created numerous deliverables for multiple internal and external companies, including TypeIt, DeFiner, IndexZoo, and UniElon. It was an exciting experience as I constantly shifted between tasks for different companies. This experience not only allowed me to showcase my design skills but also provided a professional environment for me to further develop and hone my UI/UX and graphic design abilities.

In this case study, I will be sharing the design work I personally undertook for TypeIt. I had the opportunity to work remotely with a team of talented designers, including one lead designer, one part-time designer, and three interns. Despite being in different time zones, we collaborated seamlessly on various TypeIt tasks. Together, we worked on a wide range of projects, including designing user interfaces and developing impactful marketing materials like social media graphics and animated promotional videos.

Overview

TypeIt, one of DeFiner Lab’s clients, is a pioneering company leading the Web3.0 revolution. With their groundbreaking keyboard application, users can earn passive income while effortlessly carrying out their everyday typing tasks.

Problem

TypeIt is seeking a complete overhaul of their website design to give it a fresh and modern look, as well as establish a unique and memorable brand identity. When I joined the team, DeFiner Labs had already established a set of brand guidelines, providing a solid foundation to work with for new webpages and graphics.

Solution

Create website and mobile designs, and customer marketing material that align with the new TypeIt branding to build trust with users, boost sales, and increase downloads for their mobile app.

Constraints

There were several constraints that affected the project. One of them was the lead designer and I worked in different time zones, with her in the China time zone and myself in the Pacific time zone. As a result, there was often a one-day delay in receiving feedback.

The designs were also constrained by TypeIt’s established brand guidelines. It’s important to note that I began working on TypeIt projects after their brand and homepage had already been finalized. Therefore, I had to ensure that my designs aligned with these existing guidelines.

As a new designer entering a professional environment, I faced the challenge of adapting quickly to the demands of the job. Despite having no prior experience in graphic design, I had to rapidly acquire new skills and knowledge every day. Each design task I worked on had its own specific deadline, set by the TypeIt team. To add to the dynamic nature of the job, new tasks were frequently generated on a daily basis.

Tokenomics Page

The Tokenomics page provides users with a comprehensive description of the $WORD and $TYPE tokens. The latest version of the page has been carefully structured to facilitate easy comparison and contrast between the two tokens. Additionally, it offers detailed explanations of how TypeIt intends to utilize revenue and allocate tokens.

I collaborated with other designers to develop several iterations for both the mobile and web versions.

Ambassador Recruitment Page

The Ambassador Recruitment page is designed to inspire users to join the TypeIt Community Ambassador program. It highlights the various benefits that Ambassadors can enjoy, including exclusive limited edition blind boxes. Additionally, the page outlines the rules and guidelines of the program.

The Ambassador Recruitment page on TypeItโ€™s website urgently needed a redesign as it was completely rewritten with new information. In addition to two other designers who were working in China, I stepped in and worked late at night Pacific time to ensure that the first iteration of the new web and mobile designs for the Ambassador Recruitment page was completed. This allowed the TypeIt team to quickly provide feedback for the next day’s iterations.

Marketing Materials

I had the opportunity to work on a range of marketing materials for TypeIt, including graphics and animated content.

A promotional poster I designed to encourage users to join TypeIt’s Telegram group, which was featured on the Free Mint page of TypeIt’s website (left). I also designed two social media templates to announce exciting company collaborations, as well as AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions where live Q&A events take place (right).

Style Guide

During the internship, designers were required to adhere to the existing brand guideline.

Conclusion

I created multiple iterations of web, mobile, and graphic designs for TypeIt until there was no more feedback or suggestions from stakeholders. This indicates that my designs were successful and aligned well with the company’s branding.

Although I received valuable feedback from peers and stakeholders, I do wish I had the chance to conduct user research and testing to determine the user-friendliness of my designs. This was my first time designing in a professional environment with other designers, and it gave me valuable hands-on experience in working in a fast-paced setting. I was pleasantly surprised by the speed at which our small design team at DeFiner Labs seamlessly moved from project to project, working on multiple iterations together.

During this internship, I had the chance to work on various tasks for TypeIt, DeFiner, IndexZoo, and UniElon. This experience not only allowed me to expand my UI/UX skills but also gave me the opportunity to dive into the world of graphic design. Out of all these companies, I specifically chose to highlight my work with TypeIt in my portfolio because it effectively demonstrates the versatility of my design skills. I will take the valuable design experience I gained as a UI/UX Graphic Design intern and apply it to future companies and clients.
